This fat intake calculator converts a daily calorie total and a fat percent into grams of fat. Fat grams equal (calories × fat percent / 100) / 9. The default path 2200 calories at 25% fat returns about 61 g.

How the formula works
Multiply calories by fat percent divided by 100 to isolate fat calories. Divide that calorie share by 9 to convert into grams. The 9 factor is the standard Atwater style energy density used in many macro worksheets.
Worked example
Calories 2200 and fat percent 25 give fat calories 550. Dividing 550 by 9 yields about 61.11 g, commonly reported as about 61 g.

People often remember a percent target from a label or handout, then need grams for food logging. This tool bridges that gap without rebuilding the algebra each time.
If two people share the same fat percent but different calorie totals, their gram targets differ. Always recompute grams after a calorie change.
Common mistakes
- Dividing by 4 (the carb or protein factor) instead of 9
- Entering fat grams into the percent field
- Treating the default 25% as a prescribed diet for everyone
- Ignoring that packaged food rounding can drift from textbook 9 kcal/g
Building a day around the gram number
Once you have about 61 g, you can apportion fat across meals. The calculator does not schedule meals. It only returns the daily gram ceiling or target implied by your percent.
If breakfast already uses 20 g, the remaining budget is about 41 g for the rest of the day under that same target.
Changing one lever at a time
Hold calories fixed and raise fat percent to see grams rise. Then hold percent fixed and raise calories. Separating those experiments prevents confusion about which input moved the result.

Fat needs vary with health status, sport, and clinical guidance. This page does not diagnose deficiency or excess. It only performs the calorie to gram conversion for a chosen percent.
When you share a target with a coach, include calories, percent, and grams together so nobody inherits a bare gram number without context.
Label literacy
Food labels list fat grams and calories. You can reverse the idea: fat grams × 9 estimates fat calories, then divide by total calories to recover an approximate percent. Use that check when a label and a plan look inconsistent.
Rounding for logging apps
Apps often round to whole grams. About 61.11 g may display as 61 g. Keep the unrounded value in homework, and use the rounded value for everyday logging if your app requires integers.
Pairing with other macros
Fat is one slice of the calorie pie. After you set fat grams, remaining calories can fund protein and carbohydrate. Keep the three shares totaling 100% when you build a full plan on paper.
If fat percent rises and calories stay fixed, other macros must fall unless total calories rise too.
Weekend and weekday budgets
Some people eat differently on weekends. You can run two calorie totals with the same fat percent to see how weekend grams differ. That keeps the percent rule stable while the gram target flexes with energy intake.
If weekend calories jump and fat percent stays 25, expect a clear rise in fat grams. Plan protein and carb shares afterward so the day still adds to 100%.
Limitations
The calculator does not adjust for alcohol calories, fiber rules, or medical fat restrictions. It is educational macro arithmetic only, not personalized nutrition advice.
